USS Rocket (AMc-101)

USS Rocket (AMc-101) was an Accentor-class coastal minesweeper acquired by the U.S. Navy for the dangerous task of removing mines from minefields laid in coastal waterways. Rocket was named after the rocket, a cylindrical projectile propelled by burning gases.

Rocket was laid down on 22 November 1941 by the Fulton Shipyard, Antioch, California; launched on 12 April 1942; sponsored by Mrs. John E. Chapin; and commissioned on 16 February 1943, Lt. R. B. Sanders, USNR, in command.

Following shakedown, Rocket was assigned to the 12th Naval District, San Francisco, California, for duty as a patrol and minesweeping vessel. Operating primarily in the San Francisco Bay area, she remained on this duty throughout World War II.

Following the cessation of hostilities, Rocket was placed out of service on 23 November 1945. Her name was struck from the Navy List on 8 May 1946, and she was sold to Dulien Steel Products of Seattle, Washington, on 16 December 1946.

Rocket received no battle stars for her World War II service.
