Tremors (franchise)

The Tremors franchise is a series of American monster horror-comedy films and related media, encompassing seven films (including one prequel), a television series, and a video game. The core concept revolves around giant, subterranean creatures called Graboids that hunt by sensing vibrations in the ground.

The original film, Tremors (1990), introduced the isolated Nevada town of Perfection, which becomes the target of these creatures. The movie stars Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward as handymen who must defend the town. Its success led to the development of a wider franchise.

Subsequent films expanded the lore of the Graboids, introducing new stages of their life cycle, including Shriekers (bipedal, heat-sensing creatures) and Ass-Blasters (flying creatures). Michael Gross is the only actor to appear in every installment of the film series, reprising his role as survivalist Burt Gummer.

The Tremors television series aired for one season in 2003 on the Sci-Fi Channel and continued the adventures of Burt Gummer and a new cast of characters in Perfection, Nevada. The series introduced further mutations and varieties of underground creatures.

The franchise is characterized by its blend of horror, action, and humor, with a focus on practical effects in the earlier films. The later films and the television series utilized a combination of practical and computer-generated imagery (CGI) for the creatures.

The Tremors franchise maintains a cult following due to its unique premise, memorable characters, and consistent tone across its various iterations. The films explore themes of survival, adaptation, and the resourcefulness of ordinary people facing extraordinary threats.
