The North (Stars album)
The North is the sixth studio album by Canadian indie pop band Stars. It was released on September 4, 2012, through ATO Records. The album was produced by Liam O'Neil, mixed by Peter Katis, and mastered by Greg Calbi.
The North marked a departure from some of the band's earlier, more melancholic sound, incorporating more upbeat and optimistic themes. The album explores themes of love, loss, and finding hope in difficult circumstances. Lyrically, the album maintains the band's signature poetic and introspective style.
The album spawned several singles, including "The Theory of Relativity", "Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It", and "Backlines". The North received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its songwriting, production, and emotional depth. It debuted at number 5 on the Canadian Albums Chart and number 31 on the Billboard 200 in the United States.
The album's title, The North, is likely a reference to the band's Canadian identity and perhaps a broader metaphor for finding direction and purpose.
