Tangerines (film)

Tangerines is a 2013 Estonian-Georgian war drama film written and directed by Zaza Urushadze. The film is set in 1992 during the War in Abkhazia, a conflict between Georgia and Abkhaz separatists. The story revolves around Ivo, an Estonian man who remains in his village in Abkhazia after most of the Estonian community has returned to Estonia. He is left with his friend Margus, who hopes to harvest his tangerine crop before leaving.

When fighting erupts nearby, Ivo is forced to take in two wounded soldiers from opposing sides: Ahmed, a Chechen mercenary fighting for the Abkhaz, and Niko, a Georgian volunteer. Ivo insists that they both live under his roof peacefully and that neither attempt to kill the other while they are in his care. The film explores themes of humanity, forgiveness, and reconciliation in the face of ethnic conflict and war.

Tangerines received critical acclaim and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards and was among the nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
