Talorc I
Talorc I is a name found in the king lists of the Picts. He is generally considered to be one of the early, and potentially legendary, kings. The Pictish King List varies in its versions and the precise chronology of these early kings is highly uncertain. Therefore, verifiable information about the historical Talorc I is scant and much of what is attributed to him is speculative.
The King List typically places him amongst the first few rulers, but the dates attributed to his reign, if any, are highly unreliable and often considered to be schematic rather than historically accurate. His parentage is sometimes given, typically with variations depending on the specific version of the King List being consulted. Identifying Talorc I as a genuinely historical figure as opposed to a mythological or symbolic ancestor is a matter of scholarly debate. His significance lies primarily in his inclusion in the foundational narratives of Pictish kingship and the reconstruction of early Scottish history.
