Taboo (2017 TV series)
Taboo is a British period drama television series created by Steven Knight, Tom Hardy, and Chips Hardy. The series premiered on BBC One in the United Kingdom on January 7, 2017, and on FX in the United States on January 10, 2017.
The eight-episode series is set in 1814 and follows James Keziah Delaney (played by Tom Hardy), a man presumed dead, who returns to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father's shipping empire. He discovers dark family secrets and finds himself embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy involving the East India Company, the British government, and the United States of America.
Delaney refuses to sell his inheritance, Nootka Sound, a strategically important trading post on the west coast of North America, to the East India Company, who are desperate to control it. This decision sets him on a collision course with powerful forces, forcing him to navigate a treacherous landscape of political intrigue, murder, and familial secrets.
The series explores themes of colonialism, madness, revenge, and the occult. Taboo is known for its dark and atmospheric tone, strong performances, and complex characters.
