Tōsenkyō

Tōsenkyō (唐船峡) is a gorge and tourist attraction located in the city of Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It is known for its natural beauty, featuring clear spring water flowing through a narrow ravine. The area is particularly popular for its sōmen nagashi (flowing noodles) restaurants, which utilize the cold spring water to circulate and cool the noodles as diners attempt to catch them with chopsticks.

The name "Tōsenkyō" literally translates to "Tang Ship Gorge," a name purportedly derived from the legend of a Tang Dynasty (Chinese) ship that wrecked in the area centuries ago. While the veracity of the legend is unconfirmed, the name has persisted.

The cool, clear spring water found in Tōsenkyō is considered to be one of the "100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters" selected by the Ministry of the Environment in Japan. The area remains cool even during the hot summer months, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists seeking respite from the heat.
