St. Sabbas Russian Orthodox Monastery (Harper Woods, Michigan)

St. Sabbas Russian Orthodox Monastery is a male monastic community located in Harper Woods, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. It is under the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR).

The monastery was founded in 1999 by Archimandrite Agathangelos (now a bishop). Its establishment addressed a need for a traditional Russian Orthodox monastic presence in the Detroit metropolitan area. The monastery follows the Athonite typikon, a strict monastic rule originating from Mount Athos, Greece.

The monastery's patron saint is St. Sabbas the Sanctified, a 5th-century Palestinian monk and founder of several monasteries in the Holy Land. The community celebrates his feast day annually.

The monastic life at St. Sabbas Monastery revolves around daily prayer, liturgical services, spiritual labor, and obedience to the abbot. Monks engage in various obediences, which may include icon painting, gardening, and other tasks necessary for the upkeep of the monastery. The monastery also offers opportunities for pilgrimage and spiritual guidance to the faithful.
