Scopist
A scopist, also known as a proofreader, is a professional who reads and corrects transcripts of court proceedings, depositions, or other legal or medical recordings. The role involves listening to the audio recordings and comparing them to the written transcripts, identifying and correcting errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and word usage. Scopists ensure the accuracy and completeness of the final transcript. The job requires a strong understanding of legal or medical terminology, excellent listening skills, and a meticulous attention to detail. In some contexts, the term "scopist" may be used more broadly to describe someone who proofs and edits any type of transcript or document created from an audio recording. They often work closely with court reporters or transcriptionists.
