Robert Campbell (New Zealand politician)

Robert Campbell (1843 – 1925) was a New Zealand politician. He represented the Oamaru electorate in the House of Representatives from 1884 to 1890.

Campbell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1843. He emigrated to New Zealand and became a prominent landowner and businessman in the Otago region.

In the 1884 general election, Campbell stood as a candidate for Oamaru and defeated the incumbent, Thomas Proctor. He served one term in Parliament, generally supporting conservative policies. He was a supporter of Julius Vogel and his public works schemes.

Campbell did not stand for re-election in the 1890 general election. He returned to his business interests and continued to reside in Otago. He died in 1925.
