Rita Gam
Rita Gam (April 2, 1927 – March 22, 2016) was an American actress and documentary filmmaker.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Gam began her acting career on stage before transitioning to film and television. She was a member of the Actors Studio.
Gam appeared in a number of notable films, including Sign of the Pagan (1954), The Thief (1952), Hannibal (1959), King of Kings (1961), and Klute (1971). She frequently portrayed exotic or dramatic characters.
In 1958, she was one of the recipients of the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival for her performance in the film No Man's Road (also known as La strada lunga un anno).
Beyond acting, Gam produced and directed documentary films, often focusing on social and cultural issues.
She was married three times: to publisher Sidney Lumet, Thomas H. Guinzburg, and most recently, to Martin Fried. She had two children.
Rita Gam died of respiratory failure in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 88.
