Rebati
Rebati is a character in Hindu mythology, primarily known as the daughter of King Kakudmi and the wife of Balarama, the elder brother of Krishna. The stories surrounding Rebati often emphasize her extraordinary height compared to people of later ages and the adjustments made to the world to accommodate her.
According to the Puranas, King Kakudmi, feeling concerned about finding a suitable husband for his remarkably tall daughter Rebati, traveled with her to Brahmaloka, the abode of Brahma, the creator god. Kakudmi sought Brahma's advice on potential matches.
While they were in Brahmaloka, time flowed differently, and many ages passed on Earth. When Kakudmi finally asked Brahma for a suggestion, Brahma laughed and explained that all the potential suitors he had in mind were long dead, and that the people of Earth were now much shorter and physically weaker. He advised Kakudmi to return to Earth and arrange Rebati's marriage to Balarama, an incarnation of Shesha, the serpent upon which Vishnu rests.
Upon returning to Earth, Kakudmi found that the land had changed significantly. Balarama, aware of the situation, agreed to marry Rebati. However, her great height proved to be a challenge. Balarama used his divine powers to shorten Rebati to a more appropriate stature for the current age. The story highlights the concept of the cyclical nature of time (yugas) in Hindu cosmology, where human height and lifespan decrease over successive ages. Rebati is regarded as a virtuous and devoted wife to Balarama.
