Ravi Shankar (poet)
Ravi Shankar is a contemporary Indian American poet, editor, and translator. He is known for his formally inventive and politically engaged poetry, often exploring themes of identity, immigration, globalization, and environmental degradation.
Shankar is the author of several collections of poetry, including Instrumentality (2023), Wife and Girl (2022), A Well-Tempered Bed (2021), Monkey King (2016), Deepening Song (2011), and Seamless Matter (2008). He also edited Indian Literature in English: A Critical Reader (2003).
His poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, and he has received awards and fellowships from organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts, the Asian American Writers' Workshop, and the Corporation of Yaddo.
Shankar has taught at several universities and colleges, and he is currently on faculty at Central Connecticut State University and in the MFA program at City University of Hong Kong. He is also the founder of the Drunken Boat literary journal.
