Personal Column (film)

Personal Column, also known as Crisis or Shock in some English-speaking markets, is a 1949 American film noir directed by Richard Brooks and starring Signe Hasso, William Lundigan, Audrey Totter, and George Brent.

The film centers on a woman, Inez Alarcon (played by Hasso), a wealthy but emotionally neglected wife in New York City. Feeling isolated and seeking connection, she places a personal advertisement in a newspaper. Her innocent pursuit leads her into a dangerous situation involving blackmail, murder, and a web of deceit.

William Lundigan plays Steven, a man who responds to her advertisement and becomes entangled in her troubles. Audrey Totter portrays Lorna, a cynical and opportunistic character who adds to the film's suspense and intrigue. George Brent plays Inez's husband, a man seemingly oblivious to his wife's emotional needs and the dangerous circumstances surrounding her.
