Paul Hayes (footballer)
Paul Hayes (born 20 September 1983) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward.
Career
Hayes began his career as a trainee at Norwich City, turning professional in August 2002. He spent time on loan at Barnsley and Boston United before establishing himself in the Norwich first team. In January 2004, he joined Scunthorpe United on a permanent basis.
At Scunthorpe, Hayes became a key player, helping the club to promotion to League One in 2005. He played for Scunthorpe for several seasons, scoring regularly and becoming a popular figure with the fans.
In January 2008, Hayes signed for Preston North End for a fee of £200,000. He spent two years at Deepdale before joining Charlton Athletic in January 2010.
Hayes had spells at Brentford and Wycombe Wanderers, where he enjoyed a successful period and contributed significantly to their team.
Later in his career, Hayes played for Newport County, Hemel Hempstead Town, and Oxford City before retiring from professional football.
