PHOSFOS

PHOSFOS is a misspelling of "phosphorus." Phosphorus is a chemical element with the symbol P and atomic number 15. It is a multivalent nonmetal of the nitrogen group. Phosphorus exists in several allotropic forms, including white phosphorus, red phosphorus, and black phosphorus.

White phosphorus is a highly reactive, waxy solid that glows faintly in the dark (phosphorescence). It is highly toxic and flammable, spontaneously igniting in air. Red phosphorus is a less reactive and less toxic form, used in the manufacture of safety matches. Black phosphorus is the most stable allotrope and has a layered structure similar to graphite.

Phosphorus is essential for life, being a constituent of DNA, RNA, ATP, and phospholipids, which are crucial components of cell membranes. It is also a vital nutrient for plants. Commercially, phosphorus is mined from phosphate rock and used in the production of fertilizers, detergents, and various industrial chemicals. Its compounds find wide applications ranging from steel production to flame retardants.
