Päigiste
Päigiste is a village in Antsla Parish, Võru County, in southeastern Estonia. It is located approximately 15 kilometers (9 mi) northeast of Antsla, the administrative center of the parish, and a similar distance southeast of Otepää.
The village's history is tied to the surrounding area, which has been inhabited for centuries. Päigiste, like many villages in Võru County, is characterized by a rural landscape dominated by agriculture and forests. Historically, the region was part of the Livonian Confederation and later under various rulers, including Polish, Swedish, and Russian control before Estonian independence.
The population of Päigiste is relatively small and typical of rural Estonian villages. The community relies on agriculture and local businesses for its livelihood. The village is characterized by traditional Estonian farmhouses and architecture.
Transportation to and from Päigiste is primarily by road. Public transportation options are limited, consistent with the challenges of rural areas in Estonia.
There are no major landmarks or significant tourist attractions within Päigiste itself, although the surrounding natural environment and proximity to larger towns like Otepää offer opportunities for outdoor recreation.
