Outing (magazine)
Outing was an American monthly magazine devoted to outdoor recreation and travel, published from 1882 to 1923. Initially focused on hunting and fishing, it expanded its coverage to include a broader range of outdoor activities such as cycling, boating, camping, and mountaineering.
The magazine was notable for its high-quality illustrations and photography, as well as its literary contributions from prominent writers and outdoorsmen. It played a significant role in popularizing outdoor recreation in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, contributing to the growth of the conservation movement and the development of national parks. Outing also covered sporting events and offered advice on outdoor equipment and clothing. Throughout its run, the magazine underwent several title changes, including Outing and the Wheelman, reflecting the evolving interests of its readership and the changing landscape of outdoor pursuits. The magazine ceased publication in 1923.
