Nishiiwa stable (2018)

Nishiiwa stable was a sumo wrestling stable (heya) established in November 2018 by former maegashira Wakakirin Shinichi, who branched out from Sakaigawa stable. Wakakirin assumed the name Nishiiwa Oyakata upon retirement and opening the stable.

The stable was short-lived. In April 2021, Nishiiwa Oyakata was suspended from his duties for two basho (sumo tournaments) after admitting to hitting one of his wrestlers. He also received a 20% pay cut.

In October 2021, Nishiiwa stable was dissolved. Nishiiwa Oyakata returned to Sakaigawa stable as a coach, and the wrestlers under his tutelage were also transferred back to Sakaigawa stable. No new wrestlers were recruited during its brief existence. The circumstances surrounding the closure, combined with the earlier suspension, indicate a problematic environment within the stable.
