Nanpean
Nanpean is a village and civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated approximately two miles (3 km) west of St Austell. The parish includes the hamlets of Trewoon, Carclaze and Tregongeeves.
Historically, Nanpean was a significant centre for the china clay industry. Evidence of this mining activity is still visible in the landscape surrounding the village.
The name Nanpean is derived from the Cornish language. "Nan" means valley and "pean" refers to a penalty or punishment. The full meaning is therefore "valley of punishment" or "penal valley," though the origin of this name is not fully documented and open to interpretation.
Nanpean has a primary school, Nanpean Community Primary School, serving the local area. The village also contains a community hall, a church, and some local businesses.
The parish is governed by a parish council and falls within the Cornwall Council unitary authority.
