Mutalau
Mutalau is a village located on the island of Niue, an island nation in free association with New Zealand. Situated on the northern coast of Niue, Mutalau is one of the fourteen villages that make up the island's administrative divisions.
Mutalau is significant in Niuean history and culture, notably as the landing site of the first missionaries to arrive on the island in the mid-19th century. This marked a turning point in Niuean society, leading to the widespread adoption of Christianity. The village continues to hold cultural and religious importance within Niue.
The village is governed by a Village Council, reflecting the traditional Niuean system of local administration. Like other villages in Niue, Mutalau participates in national elections and contributes to the island's economy, which is primarily based on subsistence agriculture, fishing, and tourism. The population of Mutalau is relatively small, reflecting the overall population size of Niue as a whole.
