Musashi (wrestler)
Musashi, ring name of Masao Inoue (井上 雅央, Inoue Masao, born November 25, 1970), is a Japanese professional wrestler currently working for All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW).
Career:
Inoue debuted in 1992 for All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) as Masao Inoue, adopting a clean-cut babyface persona. He later developed a reputation as a solid mid-card wrestler and tag team specialist. In 2000, following the exodus of many top AJPW stars to Pro Wrestling NOAH, Inoue remained with AJPW.
Inoue adopted the "Musashi" character in 2001, a masked samurai warrior. The character was loosely based on the historical figure Miyamoto Musashi. As Musashi, Inoue adopted a more aggressive wrestling style, often utilizing a katana (typically a wooden or foam prop) as part of his entrance and persona, but rarely in actual wrestling moves. While maintaining the Musashi persona, Inoue continued to also wrestle unmasked as Masao Inoue occasionally.
Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Musashi remained a mainstay of AJPW, often participating in tag team matches and GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship bouts (with various partners). He also made appearances in other Japanese promotions.
In recent years, Musashi/Inoue has continued to be a featured performer in AJPW, providing veteran presence and participating in various storylines. His longevity and consistency have made him a respected figure within the Japanese professional wrestling scene.
