Milos Alcalay
Milos Alcalay (1920-2008) was a Yugoslav and Venezuelan architect and urban planner. Born in Belgrade, Alcalay received his architectural degree from the University of Belgrade. Following World War II and a period of displacement, he emigrated to Venezuela in 1948, where he established a successful architectural practice and played a significant role in the country's urban development.
Alcalay's work in Venezuela focused on modernist principles, often incorporating local materials and addressing the specific climatic conditions. He designed a variety of building types, including residential complexes, commercial buildings, and institutional projects. He was also involved in large-scale urban planning projects, contributing to the design and development of Caracas and other Venezuelan cities.
His contributions extended beyond architectural design; Alcalay was a professor of architecture and urban planning at the Central University of Venezuela, where he influenced a generation of Venezuelan architects. He was a proponent of sustainable design and sought to integrate environmental considerations into his work. His efforts helped to shape the architectural landscape of Venezuela during a period of rapid modernization and growth. He is remembered as a key figure in Venezuelan modern architecture and urbanism.
