Michael P. Walsh (Jesuit)
Michael P. Walsh, S.J. (born c. 1935, died June 14, 2015) was an American Jesuit priest and academic administrator. He served as the 18th President of Boston College from 1996 to 2007.
Walsh entered the Society of Jesus in 1952 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1965. He earned a bachelor's degree from Boston College, a licentiate in philosophy from Weston College, and a doctorate in the sociology of education from Harvard University.
Prior to his presidency at Boston College, Walsh served in various administrative roles, including academic vice president. During his tenure as president, Boston College saw significant growth in its endowment, academic reputation, and physical campus. He oversaw the construction of new facilities and initiatives aimed at strengthening the university's Jesuit, Catholic mission.
After stepping down as president in 2007, Walsh remained active in Jesuit education, continuing to teach and engage in scholarly work. He was known for his commitment to social justice and his dedication to the values of Jesuit education.
