Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W211)
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W211) is a series of executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz from 2002 to 2009. It was offered in sedan (W211) and station wagon (S211) body styles. The W211 represented the third generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class model range, following the W210.
Development and Design:
The W211 E-Class featured a more modern and streamlined design compared to its predecessor. Its development focused on enhanced safety, comfort, and technological features. Significant changes included improved aerodynamics, redesigned headlamps and taillights, and an updated interior.
Technical Features:
The W211 E-Class incorporated a range of innovative technologies. Noteworthy features included:
- Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC): An electro-hydraulic braking system (later discontinued on some models).
- Airmatic DC: Air suspension system offering enhanced ride comfort and handling.
- 4MATIC: Mercedes-Benz's all-wheel-drive system, available on select models.
- COMAND APS: A multimedia system integrating navigation, audio, and communication functions.
Engine Options:
The W211 E-Class was offered with a wide array of petrol and diesel engine options, varying based on market and model year. These included inline-four, V6, and V8 engines. High-performance AMG variants were also available, featuring more powerful V8 engines.
Facelift (2006):
In 2006, the W211 E-Class underwent a mid-cycle facelift. This included revisions to the exterior styling, such as updated bumpers, headlights, and taillights. Interior changes included a redesigned instrument cluster and improvements to the COMAND system. The facelift also addressed some reliability concerns related to the Sensotronic Brake Control system.
Successor:
The W211 E-Class was succeeded by the W212 E-Class, which was introduced in 2009.
