Maurice Berkeley (died 1617)
Maurice Berkeley (died 1617) was an English politician and landowner. He was the son of Sir Richard Berkeley and Elizabeth Reade. He served as a Member of Parliament for various constituencies throughout his career.
Berkeley was elected to represent Wootton Bassett in 1584 and again in 1586. He later served as a Member of Parliament for Malmesbury in 1593 and then for Calne in 1597. His parliamentary career reflects the typical pattern of gentry involvement in Elizabethan politics.
In addition to his political career, Berkeley was also a significant landowner, holding estates in Wiltshire and other counties. He married Elizabeth Killigrew, daughter of Sir Henry Killigrew. Their marriage produced children, continuing the Berkeley lineage.
He died in 1617. Further biographical information is limited by the availability of surviving records from the period.
