MTV Unplugged (Bob Dylan album)
MTV Unplugged is a live album by Bob Dylan, released in 1995 as part of the MTV Unplugged series. It captures Dylan's performance on November 17 and 18, 1994, at Sony Music Studios in New York City.
The album features a selection of Dylan's songs reworked in acoustic arrangements, often deviating significantly from the original recordings. Highlights include versions of "Tombstone Blues," "All Along the Watchtower," and "John Brown." Unlike some other MTV Unplugged performances, Dylan was initially hesitant to perform only his most well-known hits, and instead chose a more diverse and sometimes obscure setlist. This resulted in some tension between Dylan and MTV producers. Ultimately, compromises were made, and the album includes a mixture of familiar and less-familiar material.
MTV Unplugged was well-received by critics and was commercially successful, helping to re-introduce Dylan to a younger audience. It is considered a strong entry in Dylan's discography and a noteworthy installment in the MTV Unplugged series.
