Lola LC88
The Lola LC88 was a Formula One racing car designed and built by Lola Cars for the Larrousse team during the 1988 Formula One season. Powered by a Lamborghini V12 engine, it represented Lamborghini's return to Formula One as an engine supplier. The car was driven by Yannick Dalmas, Philippe Alliot, and Aguri Suzuki.
The LC88 was designed by Eric Broadley and Ralph Bellamy. While the Lamborghini engine was powerful, it was also heavy and unreliable, contributing to the car's overall lack of competitiveness. The chassis itself was considered adequate but not particularly innovative compared to its competitors.
The season was plagued by retirements due to mechanical issues, primarily engine-related. The team did manage to secure some points finishes, with Alliot scoring several times. These results helped Larrousse finish in the top ten of the Constructors' Championship. Despite the points finishes, the LC88 was generally considered a difficult car to drive and develop, largely due to the underdeveloped Lamborghini engine. The car was replaced by the Lola LC89 for the 1989 season.
