Ladigesia
Ladigesia is a small genus of African tetras belonging to the Alestidae family. These freshwater fish are native to West Africa. The genus is characterized by its small size and distinctive coloration, often including iridescent scales.
Ladigesia currently contains two recognized species:
- Ladigesia roloffi Géry, 1968
- Ladigesia ommata Géry, 1968
These species are found in coastal rivers and streams in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. They typically inhabit heavily vegetated areas with slow-moving water. Ladigesia species are popular in the aquarium hobby due to their peaceful temperament and attractive appearance. They are relatively easy to care for, requiring soft, slightly acidic water and a varied diet.
