Kirkcaldy Burghs (UK Parliament constituency)

Kirkcaldy Burghs was a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1832 to 1918. It was a district of burghs constituency, comprising a collection of burghs (towns) rather than a geographic area like a county constituency. The burghs that comprised the constituency varied over time, but generally included Kirkcaldy, Dysart, Kinghorn, and Burntisland.

The constituency was created as part of the electoral reforms of the Reform Act 1832. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) using the first-past-the-post system.

Notable MPs who represented Kirkcaldy Burghs include:

  • Ebenezer Erskine (Liberal)
  • Sir Robert Reid (Liberal), later Lord Loreburn

The constituency was abolished in 1918 as part of further electoral reforms introduced by the Representation of the People Act 1918. Its territory was largely incorporated into the new Kirkcaldy constituency.
