Kerebete
Kerebete is a word of Turkish origin, most accurately described as a type of low, elaborately decorated wooden bed or divan. It traditionally features a highly ornamented headboard and footboard, often inlaid with mother-of-pearl, bone, or other decorative materials. The kerebete served as a place for sleeping, resting, and receiving guests in Ottoman and Turkish households. Its size is smaller and lower to the ground than a standard western bed. The aesthetic value was often as important as its functionality, making it a significant piece of furniture representing status and wealth. While its use as a primary bed has declined with the adoption of modern furniture, the kerebete is sometimes found today as a decorative piece or a daybed in homes aiming to evoke a traditional Turkish style.
