Kandisha (2008 film)
Kandisha is a 2008 French horror film directed by Jérôme Cohen-Olivar. The film is inspired by the Moroccan legend of Aisha Kandisha, a demon or jinni figure in Moroccan folklore, often depicted as a beautiful woman with the legs of a camel or goat.
The film centers on a young lawyer, Naila (played by Amira Casar), who returns to her childhood home in Morocco following the death of her father. While there, she becomes entangled in a series of bizarre and increasingly terrifying events linked to the Kandisha legend. Naila initially dismisses the tales as superstition, but she is soon forced to confront the reality of the ancient evil as people around her begin to die in mysterious circumstances.
The film explores themes of cultural identity, superstition versus rationality, and the enduring power of ancient legends. It received mixed reviews, with some critics praising its atmosphere and use of Moroccan folklore, while others criticized its pacing and reliance on familiar horror tropes.
