Juan Castillo (American football)

Juan Castillo (born October 23, 1959) is an American football coach. He most recently served as an offensive line coach for the Florida Panthers of the XFL. He is best known for his long tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles (1995-2012), where he served in multiple roles, including tight ends coach, offensive line coach, and, controversially, defensive coordinator.

Castillo began his coaching career at the high school level in Texas, before moving on to coach at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He joined the Eagles as an offensive assistant/quality control coach in 1995. His success in developing offensive linemen led to him becoming the offensive line coach in 1998, a position he held for 13 seasons. During that time, the Eagles' offensive line was consistently ranked among the best in the NFL.

In 2011, Castillo was unexpectedly named the Eagles' defensive coordinator by head coach Andy Reid. The move was widely criticized due to Castillo's lack of experience coaching on the defensive side of the ball. He was eventually fired midway through the 2012 season after the Eagles' defense struggled.

Following his departure from Philadelphia, Castillo served as the offensive line coach for the Baltimore Ravens (2013-2016) and the Buffalo Bills (2017-2018). He has also worked as a consultant and held coaching positions in the Alliance of American Football (AAF) and the XFL.
