Jim Dougherty (baseball)
James "Jim" Dougherty (born August 17, 1867, in Allegheny, Pennsylvania; died July 24, 1927, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) was an American professional baseball player. He played primarily as a shortstop in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1888 to 1901.
Dougherty played for several teams during his career, including the Philadelphia Athletics (American Association), Baltimore Orioles (National League), Pittsburgh Pirates (National League), New York Giants (National League), and Philadelphia Phillies (National League). He was known for his defensive skills at shortstop.
Dougherty's best offensive season was likely with the 1894 Baltimore Orioles, a team recognized as one of the greatest in baseball history. He played a significant role in their success, contributing to their National League championship.
After his playing career, Dougherty remained involved in baseball, reportedly working as a scout. He passed away in Pittsburgh in 1927.
