ISO 860

ISO 860 is an obsolete international standard, withdrawn in 1988, that specified numeric date and time notations. It has been superseded by ISO 8601. ISO 860 covered aspects like representations for calendar dates, time of day, and combined date and time representations. While ISO 860 is no longer officially supported, understanding its principles can be helpful in interpreting older systems or data formats that may have been designed in accordance with its guidelines.

The standard provided a framework for unambiguous date and time representation to facilitate international data exchange and avoid confusion caused by varying national conventions. Its main goal was to define a clear and consistent method of writing dates and times numerically. Its replacement, ISO 8601, expands on this work and is the current international standard for date and time representations.
