HMS Tiverton (1918)
HMS Tiverton was a Hunt-class minesweeper of the Aberdare sub-class built for the Royal Navy during World War I. She was ordered in February 1917, built by Ailsa Shipbuilding Company, Troon, and launched on 23 March 1918.
As a Hunt-class minesweeper, Tiverton was primarily designed for clearing mines in coastal waters. These ships were coal-fired and relatively lightly armed, typically with a single 4-inch gun and several smaller guns for defense. They were a crucial part of the Royal Navy's effort to keep vital shipping lanes open during the war and immediately after.
Following the end of World War I, Tiverton continued to serve with the Royal Navy for a period, primarily engaged in minesweeping duties. Information about her specific activities and ultimate fate is limited, as records for many smaller vessels of this era are not always readily available. Hunt-class minesweepers were gradually retired or repurposed during the interwar period.
