HMS Scipio (1782)
HMS Scipio was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line in the Royal Navy, launched in 1782. She was designed by Sir John Williams and built at the Woolwich Dockyard. Scipio served during the later years of the American Revolutionary War and the French Revolutionary Wars.
Her service included participation in the Battle of the Saintes in April 1782, a decisive British victory against the French fleet. She continued to serve actively in the Mediterranean and Atlantic throughout the 1790s, participating in various fleet actions and patrols. Specific details of her commissions and commanders can be found in British naval records of the period.
Scipio was eventually broken up in 1804.
