HMS Harpy (1796)

HMS Harpy was a British Royal Navy Merlin-class sloop launched in 1796. She was built by Barnard, Deptford Wharf.

Harpy primarily served in the English Channel and the North Sea during the Napoleonic Wars. Her duties included convoy escort, anti-privateering patrols, and blockading enemy ports.

In 1798, Harpy, under the command of Commander Henry Bazely, captured the French privateer Coureur. She also participated in actions against French shore batteries.

She was paid off in 1802 and subsequently sold out of service in 1805. Her fate after leaving Royal Navy service is not well documented.
