Guile (Street Fighter)
Guile is a fictional character in Capcom's Street Fighter series. He is an American Major in the United States Air Force, known for his signature hairstyle, stoic demeanor, and signature moves such as the "Sonic Boom" and "Flash Kick" (also known as the "Somersault Kick").
First appearing in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (1991), Guile's primary motivation is to avenge the death of his best friend, Charlie Nash, who was seemingly killed by M. Bison. This objective often places him in direct conflict with Bison and the Shadaloo organization.
Guile's fighting style blends elements of wrestling and traditional martial arts, adapted for his military background. His moveset emphasizes charge partitioning, requiring the player to hold back or down on the directional input for a certain duration before executing powerful attacks. This distinguishes him from characters who rely on more traditional motion inputs.
He has been a recurring character throughout the Street Fighter series, appearing in most mainline entries and various spin-offs. His personality is typically portrayed as serious and disciplined, reflecting his military training. He is often depicted as a dedicated soldier and friend, deeply affected by Nash's death and determined to bring Bison to justice.
Outside of the main Street Fighter games, Guile has also appeared in various other Capcom titles, such as SNK vs. Capcom and Marvel vs. Capcom series. He has also been featured in animated adaptations, comics, and the live-action Street Fighter film. His popularity has cemented him as one of the most recognizable and iconic characters in fighting game history.
