George Holloway (politician)

George Holloway (1825-1892) was a British Liberal politician and businessman. He served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Stroud from 1868 to 1874.

Born in Brimscombe, Gloucestershire, Holloway was a prominent member of the local community, involved in the manufacturing of machinery. He was a partner in the firm of Stroud & Holloway, engineering and boiler makers, known for their high-quality products and innovative designs.

In the 1868 general election, Holloway successfully contested the Stroud constituency, advocating for Liberal principles such as free trade, electoral reform, and non-interventionist foreign policy. During his time in Parliament, he took a particular interest in matters relating to industry and trade.

Holloway was defeated in the 1874 general election. After leaving Parliament, he continued his business activities in Stroud. He remained a well-respected figure in the region, known for his philanthropy and contributions to the local economy. He died in 1892.
