Garry Thompson (footballer, born 1980)
Garry Thompson (born 23 July 1980) is an English former professional footballer. A versatile player, Thompson operated primarily as a midfielder, but was also capable of playing in defence or as a forward.
Thompson began his career as a trainee with Coventry City, turning professional in 1999. He made his Football League debut while on loan at Scunthorpe United in 2000. After being released by Coventry, he joined Northampton Town in 2001, where he spent four seasons.
Following his time at Northampton, Thompson moved to Tamworth. He later played for Hucknall Town, and then Stafford Rangers.
In 2006, Thompson joined Burton Albion, where he enjoyed considerable success, helping the club win the Conference Premier title in 2009 and subsequently playing in the Football League.
He then moved to Morecambe. After Morecambe, he signed for Bradford City, where he had a successful spell, contributing to their League Two play-off final victory in 2013.
Later in his career, Thompson played for Notts County and Wycombe Wanderers. He retired from professional football in 2016.
