Flag of Paraná (state)

The Flag of Paraná is the official symbol of the Brazilian state of Paraná. It was adopted by State Law No. 5707 on January 31, 1968.

The flag features a green field, representing the verdant forests of the state. Superimposed on the green field is a blue circle containing a pine branch (Araucaria angustifolia), a symbol of the region's abundant pine trees. Above the pine branch is a representation of the Southern Cross constellation, a symbol common in Brazilian flags and heraldry. Beneath the pine branch is a banner bearing the state's name, "PARANÁ".

The colors of the flag are symbolic. Green represents the state's forests, blue symbolizes the sky, and white represents peace. The Araucaria pine tree is significant because it is a characteristic tree of the Paraná landscape. The Southern Cross is a national symbol linking Paraná to Brazil.
