Fiador (tack)
The fiador is a component of traditional hackamores and bosals used in horsemanship. It's a thin rope or cord attached to the hackamore or bosal, passing under the horse's jaw and connecting to the mecate reins, creating a three-point pressure system. The fiador serves primarily as a safety backup, preventing the hackamore or bosal from being completely pulled off the horse's head should the rider lose control of the reins or the horse resist. It also contributes to the overall balance and feel of the equipment, adding subtle pressure and aiding in communication between horse and rider. In some variations, it may also prevent the bosal from rotating on the horse's nose.
