Fancy Pants (film)
Fancy Pants is a 1950 American musical comedy film starring Bob Hope and Lucille Ball. It is a remake of the 1930 film Raffles, which was based on the E.W. Hornung novel Raffles, the Amateur Cracksman.
In Fancy Pants, Hope plays Humphrey Briggs, an American vaudeville performer who is mistaken for a British Lord by Agate McCoy (Lucille Ball). McCoy hires Briggs to tutor her family in etiquette so they can gain acceptance into high society upon their return to America. The ensuing fish-out-of-water comedy follows Briggs as he tries to maintain his false identity while navigating the complexities of upper-class social circles and romantic entanglements.
The film features musical numbers, physical comedy, and situational humor characteristic of Bob Hope's comedic style. Lucille Ball's comedic talents are also highlighted in her portrayal of the socially ambitious Agate McCoy.
Directed by George Marshall, Fancy Pants was a box office success and is remembered as one of Bob Hope and Lucille Ball's notable collaborations.
