Esben and the Witch (band)
Esben and the Witch is a British alternative rock band formed in Brighton in 2009. The band's sound is often described as a blend of darkwave, noise rock, and dream pop, characterized by heavy instrumentation, atmospheric soundscapes, and singer Rachel Davies' distinctive vocals.
The original lineup consisted of Rachel Davies (vocals, keyboards), Daniel Copeman (guitar, keyboards), and Thomas Fisher (guitar). They released their debut single, "Lucia, at the Precipice," in 2010, followed by their debut album, Violet Cries, in 2011.
Esben and the Witch went on to release several more albums, including Wash the Sins Not Only the Face (2013), A New Nature (2014), and Older Terrors (2016). These albums further explored their signature sound, often incorporating elements of drone, experimental music, and post-rock.
Throughout their career, Esben and the Witch toured extensively, playing at festivals and venues across Europe and North America. Their live performances were known for their intense energy and immersive atmosphere.
In 2018, the band announced an indefinite hiatus, marking the end of their active period as a band.
