Emily Sweeney (luger)
Emily Sweeney (born March 9, 1993) is an American luger. She is a bronze medalist in the sprint event at the 2017 World Championships and represented the United States at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.
Sweeney began luge at the age of 10, following in the footsteps of her older sister, Megan Sweeney, who also competed in the sport. She joined the USA Luge Junior National Team in 2008 and the Senior National Team in 2010.
Sweeney's early career was marked by success in junior competitions. She won a silver medal at the 2013 Junior World Championships. In senior competition, she has achieved multiple World Cup podium finishes.
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Sweeney crashed during her final run, resulting in her being taken off the track on a stretcher. She later recovered and competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, finishing 26th.
Beyond luge, Sweeney is also a Sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard.
