Elk River (Colorado)

The Elk River is a prominent tributary of the Yampa River in northwestern Colorado, USA. It flows for approximately 35 miles (56 km) from its headwaters in the Park Range, descending generally northward through a scenic valley before joining the Yampa River near the town of Steamboat Springs.

The river is a popular destination for fly fishing, particularly for trout, due to its cold, clear waters and healthy insect populations. Rafting and kayaking are also common activities during the spring runoff. The surrounding valley is characterized by ranch land, forests, and the towering peaks of the surrounding mountains.

Historically, the Elk River valley was inhabited by Ute Native Americans before European settlement. The area's economy is now based on agriculture, recreation, and tourism.
