Drest V
Drest V, sometimes referred to as Drest mac Uuid or Drust V, is a figure in the king lists of the Picts. He is generally considered to have reigned in the 9th century.
Historical records regarding Drest V are scant and often contradictory, making a definitive understanding of his reign challenging. He appears in various versions of the Pictish king lists, but the precise dates of his reign and the length of his rule are uncertain and vary between sources.
The primary source of information about Drest V comes from these king lists, which themselves can be problematic due to their potential for scribal errors, political manipulation, and the incorporation of legendary figures. Because of the limited and inconsistent nature of these records, little is definitively known about the events or circumstances of his reign.
Drest V is typically placed within the later period of Pictish rule, preceding the unification of the Picts and Gaels under Kenneth MacAlpin (Cináed mac Ailpín). His place in the sequence of Pictish kings is generally accepted, but details beyond his name and a rough approximation of his reign are largely unknown. The lack of corroborating evidence makes it difficult to ascertain the true extent of his power, the stability of his rule, or his impact on Pictish society.
