Crinodes

Crinodes is a genus of extinct crinoids belonging to the order Disparida. These sea lilies, also known as feather stars, lived during the Ordovician period. The defining characteristic of Crinodes is their unique and relatively simple morphology compared to more complex crinoids. They possessed a small, often inconspicuous, calyx (the main body) and a relatively short stem attached to the seabed. Their arms, used for filter-feeding, were typically few in number and unbranched. Crinodes provides important insights into the early evolution and diversification of crinoids, demonstrating a simpler body plan from which more complex forms likely evolved. Fossils of Crinodes have been found in Ordovician-aged rocks in various parts of the world, contributing to our understanding of ancient marine ecosystems.
