County Wicklow (Parliament of Ireland constituency)

County Wicklow was a constituency that returned members to the Parliament of Ireland from 1613 until the Act of Union in 1800, after which Wicklow became a constituency of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

Initially, the right to vote in the constituency was restricted to freeholders who owned land worth 40 shillings a year. Over time, the franchise expanded somewhat but remained relatively limited.

The constituency was represented by two Members of Parliament (MPs) simultaneously. Elections were typically held at the county town of Wicklow.

Notable families and figures from the county, often landowners and members of the aristocracy, frequently held the seats. Political alliances and patronage played a significant role in determining who was elected.

Following the Act of Union in 1800, which merged the Parliaments of Ireland and Great Britain, the County Wicklow constituency became a constituency of the UK Parliament. The final members to represent County Wicklow in the Irish Parliament were William Hume and William Hoare Hume.
